Find answers to common questions about our expeditions, bookings, safety, and more.
General Questions
We are a locally-owned company with deep roots in the Himalayas. Our guides are native to these mountains and have decades of combined experience. We focus on authentic experiences, safety, and personalized service. Unlike larger operators, we keep group sizes small to ensure personalized attention and a more intimate adventure experience.
Consider your fitness level, previous trekking experience, and interests. We offer expeditions ranging from easy (Atal Tunnel Adventure) to extreme (Zanskar Winter Trek). Check the difficulty ratings, duration, and altitude on each expedition page. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll help you choose based on your fitness level and goals.
Typically included: accommodation during the expedition, all meals (as specified), trained guides and support staff, necessary permits, camping equipment (tents, sleeping bags, mattresses), transportation during the expedition, basic first aid and safety equipment. Not included: flights to/from starting point, travel insurance, personal gear, optional activities, tips, and expenses of personal nature.
We recommend booking at least 2-3 months in advance, especially for popular expeditions during peak seasons (May-June, September-October). Some expeditions like the Chadar Trek (Zanskar Winter Trek) have limited availability and should be booked 3-4 months ahead. Early booking ensures availability and better pricing.
Yes! We offer discounts for groups of 4 or more people. Group discounts vary by expedition and group size. Contact us with your group details and we'll provide a customized quote. We also offer special rates for student groups, corporate teams, and repeat customers.
Booking & Payment
You can book through our website by filling out the inquiry form on any expedition page, contacting us via WhatsApp (+91 90286 91610), email (info@jimnyhimalayanexpeditions.com), or phone. We'll confirm availability and send you a booking confirmation with payment details.
We accept bank transfers, UPI payments, and major credit/debit cards. Payment details will be provided upon booking confirmation. A deposit is required to secure your booking, with the balance due before the expedition start date as specified in your confirmation.
Cancellation policies vary by expedition and timing. Generally, cancellations more than 30 days before departure receive a partial refund (minus deposit). Cancellations 15-30 days before receive 50% refund. Less than 15 days are non-refundable. Changes to dates may be possible subject to availability and may incur fees. See our Terms of Service for detailed policies.
If we cancel an expedition due to weather, safety concerns, or insufficient bookings, you'll receive a full refund or the option to transfer to another date. We always prioritize your safety and will communicate cancellations as early as possible.
Safety & Health
Safety is our top priority. We use certified and experienced guides trained in first aid and high-altitude rescue. We carry comprehensive first aid kits, oxygen cylinders, and emergency communication equipment. Our guides are trained to recognize altitude sickness symptoms and we follow gradual acclimatization protocols. Group sizes are kept manageable for better supervision and safety.
Our guides are trained to recognize altitude sickness symptoms early. We follow gradual ascent patterns and include acclimatization days. If symptoms occur, our guides will assess the situation and take appropriate action, which may include descending to lower altitude, administering oxygen, or arranging evacuation if necessary. We carry oxygen cylinders and medical supplies for such situations.
Yes, comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended and sometimes required for high-altitude expeditions. Your insurance should cover medical expenses, emergency evacuation (including helicopter rescue), trip cancellation, and personal accident. Ensure it covers high-altitude trekking up to the maximum altitude of your expedition.
Serious heart conditions, respiratory problems, uncontrolled diabetes, severe asthma, and other serious medical conditions may prevent participation. We require participants to disclose all medical conditions before booking. We may request medical clearance for certain expeditions. Participants must be physically fit for the chosen expedition difficulty level. Consult with your doctor before booking.
Preparation & Packing
We provide a detailed packing list upon booking. Essentials include: warm layers (thermal wear, fleece, down jacket), comfortable trekking shoes/boots, sunglasses, sunscreen (SPF 50+), hat, water bottle, headlamp, personal medications, camera, and power bank. We provide camping equipment (tents, sleeping bags, mattresses), but you may bring personal items for comfort.
Fitness requirements vary by expedition difficulty. Easy expeditions require basic fitness. Moderate expeditions require regular exercise and some hiking experience. Challenging/Extreme expeditions require good fitness, regular cardio training, and preferably prior high-altitude experience. We recommend starting a fitness routine at least 6-8 weeks before departure, focusing on cardio, strength training, and hiking if possible.
Accommodation varies by expedition. In cities like Manali and Leh, we use comfortable hotels with modern amenities. During treks, we use high-quality camping equipment with sleeping bags and mattresses. Some expeditions include village stays or guesthouses. All accommodation is carefully selected for comfort, safety, and scenic locations. Toilet facilities are available at all locations.
We provide nutritious meals suitable for high-altitude activities. Meals typically include Indian, Tibetan, and continental options. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and common dietary restrictions if informed in advance. Please disclose any allergies or special dietary requirements at the time of booking. Our support staff prepares fresh, healthy meals throughout the expedition.
