HAMTA PASS CROSSING

The best time for Hamta Pass trek is from June to September when the weather is pleasant and the pass is accessible. July and August offer the best weather with clear skies and blooming alpine meadows. Early June and late September may have some snow patches near the pass.

Prior trekking experience is recommended but not mandatory. This is a moderate difficulty trek suitable for beginners with good physical fitness. You should be able to walk 5-6 hours daily carrying a light backpack. Basic fitness training for 2-3 weeks before the trek is recommended.

The maximum altitude is 4,270m at Hamta Pass, which is relatively moderate. Most people adapt well, but some may experience mild symptoms. Our guides are trained to recognize altitude sickness symptoms and carry first aid kits. We recommend staying hydrated, walking at your own pace, and informing guides immediately if you feel unwell.

Essentials include: warm layers (thermal wear, fleece, down jacket), waterproof outer shell, comfortable trekking shoes with good grip, woolen socks (3-4 pairs), gloves, warm hat, sunglasses, sunscreen (SPF 50+), water bottle (2 liters), headlamp, personal medications, camera. We provide all camping equipment, sleeping bags, and mattresses.

We camp in high-quality mountain tents with sleeping bags and mattresses. All campsites are carefully selected for safety, water availability, and scenic beauty. We provide common dining tents and toilet tents. One night is spent in a hotel in Manali before the trek starts.

All meals are included during the trek. We provide nutritious, freshly prepared vegetarian meals including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. All food is prepared by our trained cooks using fresh ingredients carried from Manali. We accommodate special dietary requirements with prior notice.

The trek starts through lush green meadows and pine forests on the Kullu side, gradually ascending to alpine meadows. The pass crossing involves steep ascent and descent with some rocky sections. Yes! The trek includes a visit to the stunning Chandratal Lake (Moon Lake) at 4,300m. After descending from Shea Goru, we drive to Chandratal where we camp for the night. This is one of the most beautiful high-altitude lakes in the Himalayas and a perfect ending to the trek.
